The founding teacher of our Zen lineage, Robert Aitken Roshi, died on August 5th. Our hearts are full with gratitude for his opening of the way for all who followed and his big turn of the dharma wheel. From Zen Master Raven:

Raven took his perch on the Assembly Oak and addressed a special meeting of the Tallspruce community, saying,

‘It’s time for me to be moving on.’

Porcupine asked, ‘Where will you be going?’

Raven said, ‘Where cedar roots stand bare in the creek.’

A hush fell over the circle. Grouse could be heard sniffling.

At last Porcupine asked. ‘Do you have any last words for us?’

Raven said, ‘Trust.’

~

From the: Genjokoan

“To study the buddha way is to study the self. To study the self is to forget the self. To forget the self is to be actualized by myriad things. When actualized by myriad things, your body and mind as well as the bodies and minds of others drop away. No trace of realization remains, and this no-trace continues endlessly.”
